Much more scary than writing a book
I’ve just arranged with Stratford Grammar School for Girls to go in and discuss the book with some of their students on Friday 11th. I always find talking about a book far more daunting than actually writing it. Maybe because when I’m writing I feel like I can change things, work on it until I feel confident in it, before I have to show it to anyone.
I much prefer editing to writing the first draft. My friend’s got a postcard which shows a surreal painting of a tightrope walker at night. He’s got one end of the rope tied to a tree and he’s walking along it, paying out the line as he goes, heading for the moon. That’s kind of what it feels like writing a first draft…

My friend is brilliant and has found her postcard on the internet (EVERYTHING is on the internet…). She tells me it’s called Giacomond by Quint Buchholz.
It’s at this link:

Hi Leila,
You’ll be coming in to talk to my Year 10 group. I have asked them to have a look at your blog so I hope that you’ll have a few comments from them before Friday.
Great, look forward to it!
